Meet Dr. Heidi M. Braun

I am the medical director and founder of PhoenixDPC. Originally from Berlin, Germany, I attended Hannover Medical University. Upon moving to Savannah with my husband in 2000, I started my internal medicine residency at Memorial University Medical Center.  After my graduation in 2003, I became board certified in internal medicine. I consider myself fortunate to have had the opportunity of practicing with some of Savannah’s most distinguished providers at the finest facilities for the course of the following years. In January 2008 I opened my first own practice, Braun Internal Medicine, P.C. in Pooler. After 10 successful years, seeking to improve on the current state of affairs in Medicine, I embarked my latest endeavor, PhoenixDPC, Inc. On June 1st, 2017 I opened the doors to my new DPC facility. Changing to Direct Primary Care (DPC) was one of the best decisions I ever made. I was able to reduce the administrative portion and associated cost of my daily work tremendously by cancelling all my contracts with insurances and Medicare.

Doctor, MD, Medical Doctor, Physician
Heidi M. Braun, M.D.

It is my first priority to serve my patients and to meet and exceed their medical needs, so they can enjoy healthier and happier lives. My special interests include management of diabetes, hypertension, and cholesterol. I am dedicated to treating patients as whole persons and am sensitive to the importance of mental and spiritual aspects of patients’ overall well being.

Why I turned to Direct Primary Care

My patients have come to know me as a caring physician who takes time with them during their visits, so they don’t feel rushed. Some of my patients have told me that they switched to me from their former doctor, because they did not like being herded like cattle, or because they felt like a number rather than an individual. Unfortunately, the insurance-based healthcare system did not allow me to continue practicing that way any longer. I had to see ever increasing numbers of patients in order to survive as a business, which meant less time to spend with each patient. There are also ever increasing bureaucratic burdens forced on physicians by government-run and private insurance companies, again taking away time that could be spent with patients.

I did not want to let third parties dictate how I practice medicine, how I treat my patients and how much time I can spend with them. This is why, after much thought, I decided to opt out of contracts with all insurance companies and switch to a practice form called Direct Primary Care (DPC). In this model, there is no middle man. The relationship is directly between the patient and me, your physician. No more co-pays, deductibles, pre-certifications or bills in the mail. The patient pays an affordable monthly fee in return for unlimited, unhurried office visits and predictable costs.
