Frequently Asked Questions

If I join Braun Internal Medicine, when can I be seen?
Usually I am able to see new patients within a week.

Chronic Pain, Addiction and Controlled Substances
Please read my practice policy on those issues here.

Can I join if I have Medicare?
Yes, no problem, you can join. However, by law you are required to sign a written acknowledgment that neither you nor PhoenixDPC may bill Medicare for  services rendered here. Medicare will still cover any laboratory testing, imaging, medications, or hospitalizations prescribed by our offices.

How long is the membership term?
We have a monthly membership cancellation.  We don’t want you having to stay if you don’t like Direct Primary Care. Cancellation without reason before the end of any month is good enough for us and gives you maximum flexibility.

How Do I cancel my membership?
Call, email or text us before the end of any month and your membership will not renew the following month. However payment for the running month is still due, even if your payment draft date is later in the running month than the day you submitted your cancellation.

If I join now, can I add my family later?
Of course, if we still have room,  Just let us know when you do, so we can combine all family members and know that you belong together.

Can you still refer to specialists?
Yes.  I refer to specialists who will consult on your behalf and I will help coordinate your care (included).  If you need to go to a specialist, you can use your insurance, if you have a policy.

What if I must go to a hospital?
I am communicating with the hospitalists who work at the hospitals in the area.  I do not go to the hospitals myself, but I will obtain the records of your treatment and follow through with your care once you are discharged.

How do labs/imaging work?
We have agreements with major labs in the area. Patients will have the option to bill through us (about 90% discounted) or they can file through their insurance company.  However, if going through insurance, we cannot guarantee how much you will pay out of pocket as that becomes subject to your deductible now (you will need to contact your insurance company to find out what the allowable for specific labs and services is). We also negotiated preferred cash rates at imaging centers for our members that will beat most deductibles which are available to you.

Do you provide gynecological exams in office or refer out?
With your consent, I will perform breast exams in office as well as pap smears and bi-annual exams (included).  If you are not comfortable or prefer to be referred, I will be happy to do so. The service of the third party provider would be at your expense or subject to insurance billing.

Do you continue to offer weight management?
Yes I do, I will be glad to continue to help you achieve your weight loss and maintenance goals.

Why should I pay for this and my insurance?
If you would rather take control of your own primary care with your doctor, we suggest choosing DPC and opting for a higher deductible plan for any care required outside of primary care. With the low cost of your membership your spending may stay below the amount of your annual deductible while you never have to think twice whether you make an appointment or not, because if you feel the need you just call or see the doctor at no additional cost.

Can I pay with my HSA?
Yes and no is the short answer.  The Affordable Care Act has recognized DPC membership, but the IRS list of “qualified medical expense” has not been updated yet.  Currently the membership fees are not eligible, however there is a bill in congress waiting to be passed, so this will hopefully soon be possible, but not yet. All itemized expenses outside of the membership, labs and medications for instance are eligible.
